Garden of the Gods

Summary:

  • Millions of years in the making, the Garden of the Gods rewards with breathtaking views unlike anything else in the Midwest. See natural wonders with names like Camel Rock, Anvil Rock, Devil's Smoke Stack and other magnificent rock formations in this hiker’s and photographer’s wonderland.

  • 12 year-round rustic campsites offered on first-come first served basis (drinking water and vault toilets available). Other camping opportunities are available throughout Shawnee Forest.

  • The Observation Trail is one of the most visited places in Shawnee Forest, but hikers and backpackers can find solitude on more rugged surrounding trails ranging from day-hikes, such as Garden of the Gods Outer Loop or Indian Kitchen Loop, to multi-day expeditions such as all or any part of the 160-mile River to River Trail connecting the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
